Hello all, this is Abby from Zhangzhou RUITO Furniture, a manufacturing and trading combo for panel furniture and steel-pipe furniture in Zhangzhou city, China.

For some years now, not only solid wood use in indoor furniture but also the panel furniture is widely used in indoor furniture. Just because the panel furniture has worth value at the cheap price.

My main area is panel + steel-pipe furniture, so follow me to find what kind of wooden board be used in such products.

1, Plywood

Plywood is made by gluing plies of veneer together at right angles; the product comes in 3 plies, 4 plies or 5 plies (the more plies in a sheet, the stronger the plywood.) It is available in special order widths and lengths as well as standard 4′ x 8′ (1.2m x 2.4m) sheets with nominal thicknesses from 1/8″ (3mm) to 1-1/8″ (28mm). And there are two kinds of plywood: hardwood plywood and softwood plywood. We usually use the hardwood plywood in furniture, such as cabinets, closets and doors.

But this kind of material is not often used in Zhangzhou city furniture area.

2, Particleboard(PB Board)

Particleboard is made of wood particles (approximately sawdust size) bonded with resins and formed into panels under heat and pressure . However, particleboard has little structural strength, and a tendency to swell and disintegrate when it gets wet. The price is cheaper than MDF board.

3, Medium-Density Fibreboard (MDF)

Medium-Density Fibreboard (MDF) is made by compressing recovered and recycled wood fibre to form an engineered wood product, and costs a fraction of the price of solid wood. Standard MDF is ideal for building countertops, doors, furniture, cabinets and shelving. Moisture-resistant MDF is recommended for interior applications where there is the risk of occasional wetting or prolonged exposure to high levels of humidity.

MDF board is most widely used in the panel furniture at present and has E2, E1(P1), and E0(P2) grade. I like this material, it would be used on shelf, coffee table, dining set, side table and so on.

4, Hollow board

The hollow board is the same with MDF, made by compressing recovered and recycled wood fiber to form an engineered wood product. But the inside of the board is empty, and the thickness of it is about 3-5mm. This kind of board often use in wall shelf.

And all of above wooden board could finished with PVC and melamine.
